"THERE ARE BLACK PEOPLE IN THE FUTURE" mural project at Inwood Street
Griffin Commons partnered with muralist Ada Siobhan Griffin, the artist Alisha B. Wormsley, and project sponsors Vanessa German's ARTHouse and Awesome Pittsburgh to install a new mural at the Griffin Commons housing rehabilitation project site in the Homewood West neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
Ms. Griffin's work builds upon the success of Alisha B. Wormsley, who has utilized this phrase since 2013 to manifest the positive affirmation that Black people are an integral part of the Pittsburgh community, including its past, the present, and future. The mural also reflects on Ms. Griffin's heritage, including her family's legacy that extends more than a century in Homewood. Ms. Griffin is a graduate of Pittsburgh Public School's Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) school and is a senior at Yale University, where she studies history of art.
