City of Pittsburgh, Citiparks Water Spray Parks, 2014 – 2018

Served as project sponsor to replace long-abandoned pools with spray park facilities.  In four years, Citiparks worked to engage communities in design process, garnered support and resources, procured $3.5MM in construction costs and managed all 8 existing spray parks. New and planned spray parks developed during tenure include:

  • Warrington Spray Park in Beltzhoover

  • Burgwin Spray Park in Hazelwood

  • Arlington Spray Park in Arlington Heights

  • Paulson Spray Park in Lincoln-Lemington

 

City of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Public Schools, 2nd Grade Swim, 2015-2017

Program to provide all 2nd Graders in Pittsburgh Public Schools with free swim lessons during school hours utilizing public school pools and Citiparks lifeguards.  The public health initiative was created to restore the culture of swimming as a lifetime sport and to promote improved health outcomes in public school students.  The initiative, which included free one- or two-week lessons for all City children, served more than 3,000 children and all 33 elementary schools across the city.  The program also provide a free swimsuit and towel and each child.

    

City of Pittsburgh, Citiparks Park Ranger Program, 2015 – 2018

Developed business case and operating model and secured funding of $850K through the R.K. Mellon Foundation and the Allegheny Regional Asset District to start a customer service, public safety and facility maintenance mitigation program for Citiparks.  The program provides Park Rangers in all regional and some community parks in the City of Pittsburgh.  The Rangers are trained in customer service, nature interpretation, first aid, and self-defense. The program began with one full-time Ranger and grew to 16 full-time Rangers and 24 part-time Rangers in 4 years.

 

City of Pittsburgh, Schenley Park Artificial Grass Field Replacement, 2015

As project sponsor, provided evaluation, business case and project plan and oversaw implementation and maintenance of new artificial grass fields.  Tasks included field safety testing, procurement planning and execution and follow up maintenance to ensure warranty and safety.

 

City of Pittsburgh, Frick Environmental Center, 2013 - 2016

Served as project team member and pre-construction specialist for PPC until 2014.  Thereafter, served as project sponsor providing City funding for $21MM Living Building Challenge and LEED Platinum certified environmental education center.

 

Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, Mellon Square Park Restoration, 2012 - 2014

Provided construction project management services for $11MM park and fountains restoration. Served as co-project manager, procurement manager, and project reporting lead.

 

Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy & Eat ‘N Park, The Porch Restaurant, 2012 – 2013

Provided facility and logistical support for the construction of a 200-seat full service Eat ‘N Park restaurant within a City park. Restaurant provides over $3MM in annual revenue to support the Eat ‘N Parks bottom line and ongoing maintenance and programming within the park.

 

Penn State University, Biobehavioral Health Building, 2008 - 2012

Provided construction project management services for $48MM building, including:

  • Pre-construction design and bid management

  • Provided on-site quality assurance daily throughout the project

  • Promoted job site safety and rectified job site hazards immediately

 

Washington School District, Mechanical Commissioning, 2010 - 2011

Provided quality assurance and commissioning services for two projects, the completed renovation at Washington High School and the ongoing renovation of the Washington Park School.  The quality assurance work included:

  • Providing quality assurance for mechanical systems construction at high school

  • Commissioning of HVAC systems for K-6 elementary school

 

Pittsburgh Public Schools, Sci-Tech Academy, Commissioning, 2010 – 2011

Provided Commissioning services for the Pittsburgh Board of Education’s Science and Technology Academy for the construction and installation of mechanical systems. 

  • Provided functional tests and data, including trend logs, based on sequence of operations

  • Recorded and reported deficiencies and orchestrated corrective actions

  • Retested systems after corrective actions were made

 

Allegheny County Economic Development, Facility Energy Audit, 2010

Partnered with Lime Energy and Allegheny County to assess energy usage and efficiency options for municipal building throughout the county. 

  • Conducted energy and water surveys of various Allegheny County municipal buildings and collect information on existing systems and equipment. 

  • Collected and documented data on lighting, HVAC, water fixtures, and building envelope information.

  • Developed recommendations for efficiency upgrades for each facility

  • Provide energy and water survey report to Auditor via electronic mail as instructed, and responded to follow-up questions

 

Honeywell, Geothermal Installation, 2008 – 2010

Worked with Honeywell and Triton Energy to provide quality assurance for $25MM installation of over 700 geothermal-power HVAC units at multiple Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh facilities. 

  • Performed quality review for well field and each install heat pump

  • Facilitated project safety and site security for residents

  • Coordinated HACP punch list review and project close out

 

Deemston Borough, System Evaluation and Project Development, 2007 – 2008

Worked with Washington County municipality to develop $250K competitive grant for project renovation of their 100-year old borough building with the support of the Pennsylvania Department of Economic Development, US Department of Agriculture and local casino funding.
